Cooking with Chef Ali: Perfecting Beans & Legumes

  • Coriander Kitchen and Farm 14601 Riverside Boulevard Detroit, MI, 48215 United States (map)

Let’s Talk Beans

You should be making a pot of beans or legumes every week. If you’re not, it is time to talk!

Beans, lentils and chickpeas ( legumes) are nutritional powerhouses. They have protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, amino acids and minerals. They help control blood sugar levels, increase gut health, and actually lower inflammation despite their gassy reputation.

But, of course, not all beans and lentils are created equal.

In this class we will discuss where to find delicious local beans and legumes, talk tricks and tips for preparing them so they aren’t a chore to make or eat – and find ways to reinvent a Sunday pot of beans/lentils so it stretches to make several delicious meals throughout the week.

What will we make together?

  • Variations on a pot of beans

  • Lentil Dahl

  • Lentil Salad

You’ll take home cooked beans made in class PLUS a bag of Sheridan Acre beans to cook yourself.

6PM - 8:30PM @ Coriander Kitchen

$100/pp includes class, snacks, beer & wine, cooked beans and a bag of Sheridan Acre beans

Chef Ali is also teaching a pantry classics class (March 20) and gravlax & smoked fish class (April 17). Add on the pantry class for $60 or gravlax for $75. Purchase all three classes for $240.
